Charity? It's a piece of cake

articlemain

Tempted by the promise of cake, 3,000 people got involved in Jewish Care’s first Great Jewish Bake Day, a nationwide money and awareness raising exercise.

Supporters produced an impressive array of cake, which was enjoyed at gatherings in private homes, bakeries, schools and other communal venues, among them Jewish Care centres.

The activities for the charitably sweet-toothed included residents of Rela Goldhill Lodge in Golders Green joining forces with Habonim Dror members to bake cakes for the local homeless. And there was an East End-style tea party at Stepney Jewish Day Centre.

Six north London kosher bakeries produced Jewish Care-themed cakes, with proceeds going directly to the charity.
Vice-chair Debbie Fox said that without communal backing, “Jewish Care could not continue to be there for the thousands of people and their families who rely on the charity’s support.

“It’s so important to reach out to all members of the community whatever their age and this seemed like a fun way to do so — after all, who doesn’t like cake.”
