Cemetery vandalised

articlemain

Brighton firefighters had to use 4,000 litres of water to dilute 15 litres of hydrochloric acid poured by teenagers on to the path of Brighton and Hove Hebrew Congregation's Meadow View cemetery.

The perpetrators stole the hydrochloric acid from the caretaker's shed. The cemetery's gardener heard the commotion and chased them away.

Although the congregation's rabbi, Hershel Rader, did not believe the vandalism was antisemitic, "we will be vigilant from now on". The cemetery gates would be closed at an earlier hour.
