Plans to relocate Scotland’s only Jewish school have taken a step forward as a majority of the 60 parents at a meeting gave the idea their approval.

East Renfrewshire Council proposes to move Calderwood Lodge closer to the Jewish community as part of a shared campus with a newly-built Catholic primary in Newton Mearns. With the idea being supported by both communities a financial feasibility study will now be conducted and if the plan is deemed affordable a formal consultation process will begin.

Calderwood parents’ council chair Colin Cowan said: “We had a good meeting with East Renfrewshire and representatives of the Catholic community and everyone seems to be positive.”
Calderwood parents recently completed a survey which showed 60 per cent as willing to see the plan progress.
