Business Secretary Vince Cable has praised the work of learning disabilities charity Langdon.
Speaking at a business breakfast on Wednesday, the politician said: "The work Langdon does is extraordinarily important, especially in helping people into employment."
The event - which raised £60,000 - also saw the All Aboard charity store chain handed an employer of the year award in recognition of the employment opportunities it provides for Langdon members.
Langdon chairman Jonathan Pfeffer said those supported by the charity had gained "practical experience and the confidence that comes with paid employment, thanks to their support and valued partnership".
Carol Marks, All Aboard chair, said three Langdon members now working in the charity's shops had become "invaluable to our business"
