Tribe's Bushey Synagogue-based Aleph Learning Centre NW opened with an attendance of over 70 children from north London and Hertfordshire communities.
The centre, supported by the United Synagogue's Living and Learning department, offers a wide range of learning with some lessons taking place outside of the classroom. With the number of congregations involved, it also broadens pupils' social circles. The Aleph model has been developed from the successful learning centre at Hampstead Garden Suburb Synagogue.
Aside from Bushey, pupils are drawn from US congregations including Pinner and Stanmore.
Encouraged by the opening turnout, centre principal Rabbi Andrew Shaw wanted it to provide "an inspirational Jewish education".
