The Chief Rabbi tried his hand at bowls and cookery during a tour of Jewish Care's £44 million Wohl campus in Golders Green.
He joined day centre members, staff and young volunteers in a game of bowls. At the Otto Schiff home, caring for dementia sufferers, he helped residents to bake cakes.
Lord Sacks said the campus was an example of "pride and joy in the heart of the community. I was particularly moved by the interaction between the elderly residents and the young volunteers, all of whom were clearly enriched by their encounters."
Charity chief executive Simon Morris said the visit "brought real pleasure to our clients, volunteers and staff".
