Without a kosher shop for the past year, Bournemouth Jews are to have a new source of kosher provisions.

A shop initially opening on Thursdays and Fridays will be based at the Normandie Hotel on Bournemouth's East Cliff, the area where many of the town's 2,000 Jews reside.

It will stock deli food such as chicken soup, chopped liver, fried fish, challah and cakes.
Since the closure of The Deli in October 2007, limited kosher supplies have been available from local supermarkets. A weekly pre-ordered delivery of essential items has been made by a London firm to Bournemouth Hebrew Congregation and other capital suppliers have been making monthly deliveries to private houses.

"It's such a long time since we have had a dedicated kosher deli in the town, and I am delighted on behalf of the whole community," said Jewish representative council chairman Lawrence Williams. "I urge everyone to support this new venture."
