London Mayor Boris Johnson has visited the redeveloped Henlys Corner junction, where automated pedestrian crossings make life safer for Finchley Synagogue congregants walking to shul.

Mr Johnson was accompanied by Finchley and Golders Green MP, Mike Freer, and former Barnet mayor, Eva Greenspan.

"Our community persistently called for a safer intersection," pointed out Finchley Synagogue's Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis. "We greatly welcome the changes that have been made through this life-saving project. Members of our community can now get to synagogue without fear of being knocked down."

Following last Friday's visit, Mr Johnson spoke at a Shabbat dinner at the shul. Paying tribute to the Jewish community's charitable endeavours, he urged audience members to join his voluntary scheme, Team London. He also encouraged Jewish business leaders to offer more apprenticeships to help younger people into work.
