Gary Mond, the senior Vice-President of the Board of Deputies and trustee of the JNF UK has been suspended by the board pending an investigation into alleged Islamophobic social media conduct.

Mond, the deputy for JNF UK, was asked to step down from his duties by the board until the investigation is completed.

The board said: “Following the allegations of anti-Muslim sentiment which have surfaced we have asked Mr Mond to step down from his duties while an investigation is undertaken as is common practice.

“Mr Mond did not agree to voluntarily step down and has informed us he is currently taking legal advice.

“The Board of Deputies believes that there is no place in any Jewish communal organisation for anti-Muslim hatred.”

Mond’s suspension was sparked after the Jewish News contacted the board and informed them of his social media behaviour which included ‘liking’ statuses by right-wing activist Pamela Geller.

The posts liked by Mr. Mond referenced the 2017 election victory of Emmanuel Macron in France, and said that France had picked “submission over freedom.”

Other comments unearthed by the Jewish News from Mr. Mond include a Facebook post saying: "We just have to hope that our leaders wake up to the fact that all civilisation-west and east, American, Russian, Chinese, Israeli, whatever - is at war with these evil bastards, and I have to say it at war with Islam. And, just as Islam has lost before in history, it will lose again." In a statement to the JC, Mr. Mond said he was referring to the 2015 Paris attackers, not Muslims as a population.
