A mother-of-two who has lived with Motor Neurone Disease for eight years has praised Jewish supporters for their “kindness and generosity” in raising £10,000 predominantly for the MND Association.
Sarah Ezekiel, 43, from Hendon — who was diagnosed when pregnant with her second child — spoke to the 200 guests at the Finchley fundraiser through a special computer. “MND is a devastating disease without a cure,” she said. “We need more awareness.”
Actress Tracy Ann Oberman hosted the evening, which was on the theme of TV’s Generation Game. Auction prizes included a snooker session with Ronnie O’Sullivan and a chance to meet the Tottenham Hotspur football team.
Professional fundraiser Sally-Anne Slater organised the evening for free after making contact with Ms Ezekiel through a mutual friend.
“I saw her Facebook page and was so inspired by her story that I was determined to do something to help,” Ms Slater said. “She was determined that the money should go on equipment helping sufferers to communicate and move around. A small amount will go towards her daughter Aviva’s batmitzvah in May because we want the family to enjoy their day.”
Ms Ezekiel was the face of the MND Association’s awareness campaign, showcased by a short film about the emotional trauma of sufferers which was shown in over 60 cinemas.
