A West London Synagogue minister will be taking a reverse career journey to the late community leader Rabbi Hugo Gryn by serving a New York congregation.

After two years with the West London rabbinic team, Rabbi Danny Burkeman will leave at the end of June to take up a post at the Community Synagogue in Port Washington, Long Island. Rabbi Gryn spent time at Port Washington before joining WLS in 1964.

It will not be the first American experience for Rabbi Burkeman, who trained in Los Angeles and had stints as student rabbi at communities in Utah and California.

Rabbi Burkeman said the move would be "bittersweet".
