Liberal Judaism president Baroness Neuberger has made an impassioned plea for British Jewry to be more welcoming to converts and others on the margins of the community.
The appeal was part of an address to the movement’s celebration day in Birmingham on Sunday.
Held at the new Midlands Centre for Liberal Judaism, the event attracted 300 people, including a large contingent of under-18s.
Aside from Baroness Neuberger’s contribution, in discussion with Liberal Judaism chief executive Rabbi Danny Rich, a diverse agenda featured sessions on developing small communities and the challenges facing Progressive Judaism in Israel. Kiddush cups were painted and kipot decorated in an arts and crafts room.
Rabbi Rich said the turnout from communities nationwide reflected “a confident movement which is spreading throughout Britain”.
