Members of the JCoSS jazz club helped to drum up support for the 2016 Emunah young musician and young singer competitions, which are being held in association with the JC.
Contest founder and Emunah trustee Michelle Hirschfield visited the East Barnet school on Tuesday to promote the London heats, which will take place on February 7 at Henrietta Barnett School. The northern heats will be at Manchester’s King David High on January 28.
She explained that the competition, now in its sixth year, was inspired by “the healing power of music. We set up the Lord and Lady Sacks music therapy programme which helps disadvantaged or at risk children who are supported by Emunah in Israel.”
JCoSS head of music Ian Brookman said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity and we will be encouraging students to enter. We have some incredibly talented musicians in the school.”
Former King David head boy Yonni Levy, a classical singer, launched the contest in the north at the school’s winter concert.
Its showcase finale will be on March 20 at Rudolf Steiner House in Marylebone at which the winners will be announced, as well as the recipient of the Steven Isserlis Cup for the use of music for charitable purposes.
The competition is open to solo performers aged eight to 18, who should be of grade four standard or above in their chosen category.
