The last notes of a jazz concert signalled the final farewell to Ealing Synagogue's communal hall before the builders moved in to convert it into a new edifice combining both shul and community meeting-place.
Some 80 members and friends were there to listen to a trio band, including pianist Dave Frankel and singer Coral Cooke with the support of Conrad Simpson and saxophonist Maureen Hardman. The evening's proceeds, boosted by a raffle and sealed auction for an exclusive afternoon at Highgrove with tea and a tour of the Prince of Wales's gardens, totalled more than £1,100, which will go towards the building fund for the new shul.
