Kosher Deli customers have been showing their generosity by adding £2.50 to their shopping bill at its five stores in north west London to subsidise kosher meals for older people who visit Jewish Care's community centres across London and the south east.

Over the past three months shop staff have scanned the additional bar code 1,600 times for customers wishing to make a donation, raising £4,000 for the charity.

Kosher Deli's Jana Klein said: "We are not just a business, we are a community and we support the community. We are so proud to have been able to support Jewish Care and are delighted that our customers took such an interest in raising a large sum to provide hot kosher lunches for people attending the charity's community centres."

Jewish Care chief executive Simon Morris said: "We are so grateful to Kosher Deli for the opportunity they have given us to raise money for Jewish Care.
