The Sandymount Regeneration Project has received a donation of £10,000 from Glasgow City Council towards rebuilding the stepped entrance to the cemetery from Hallhill Road. It is hoped work on the entrance will begin in mid-August.

Meanwhile, work is well underway on the Jewish Children's Memorial to commemorate the 760 babies, infants and children buried at Sandymount in unmarked graves between 1905 and 1938. The trustees of the Sandymount Regeneration Project hope to hold a pre-Yom Tov unveiling on September 25.

Stanley Coorsh, chair of the trustees of the Sandymount Regeneration Project, said: "We hope people from the community will attend the memorial's unveiling, especially those who may have had an older sibling who sadly passed away before they were born.

"We are grateful to Glasgow City Council which has been most generous as well as all the Jewish charitable trusts and individual donors," he added.
