An agreement has been struck for three of the largest communal organisations jointly to host a celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of Israel, after fears of clashes between different groups’ plans.

In  November the United Synagogue (US) announced its own event, at the Royal Albert Hall on May 24, raising fears it would conflict with an event organised by the Jewish Leadership Council (JLC), and backed by other communal organisations.

But now the JLC, the UJIA and Israel Bonds have agreed with the US to take over the hosting of the gala.

Jonathan Goldstein, chair of the JLC, said: “Israel’s 70th anniversary is a monumental event – for our Jewish homeland and for our Jewish community.
