Charles Kaye drums up 90 musicians from 40 countries to play for peace in Israel

Ninety musicians from 77 orchestras and 40 countries will gather in Jerusalem on Sunday to play for peace, in a concert masterminded by music consultant Charles Kaye.

Mr Kaye, 58, is the driving force behind the World Orchestra for Peace - an initiative he established together with the late conductor Sir Georg Solti in 1995. Sir Georg had been asked to conduct a special concert in Geneva to celebrate the forthcoming 50th anniversary of the United Nations. The performance in Jerusalem will be the 14th World Orchestra for Peace concert, aiming to demonstrate the strength of music as an ambassador for peace.

Mr Kaye was Sir Georg's executive administrator for 20 years. He tells People: "Unfortunately peace and war never goes out of favour. There is always room for musicians to make a statement for peace, and what better place than Jerusalem to show solidarity."

The concert, supported by Russian-Israeli billionaire Arcadi Gaydamak and conducted by Valery Gergiev, will feature Israel and Palestinian musicians. Mr Kaye has been working in artistic administration since 1972. He has worked with leading figures such as Daniel Barenboim and Benjamin Britten, before joining Lies Askonas Artist Management. He began his collaboration with Georg Solti in 1977. In addition to his position with the World Orchestra for Peace, Charles Kaye acts as music consultant and adviser to international artists and organisations.
