Talmud Torah Toldos Yaakov Yosef, a boys primary in Stamford Hill, north London is the latest Charedi school to be told by education watchdog Ofsted that it is failing to comply with independent school standards.
In a report published at the end of last week, inspectors said the school adopted a “holistic approach” towards the government’s British values agenda by teaching pupils to “respect everybody, regardless of difference”.
But, the school had “completely avoided” going into specific detail about issues relating to “gender, sex and sexuality” for religious reasons, they said.
The school, which has received two previous critical reports within the last two years, had made progress since the last Ofsted visit, inspectors found.
More time was being spent on secular education and reading books in English had been ordered. Teaching about democracy and the rule of law had improved.
But, according to inspectors, the school’s leaders acknowledged that “there is still much more to do on teaching pupils about mutual respect for, and tolerance of, those with different faiths, beliefs and cultures”.
