The Zionist Federation has launched a campaign to commemorate the 11 Israeli athletes who were killed during the 1972 Munich Olympics.
The online campaign, , called “Remember the #Munich11” and timed to coincide with the opening day of the 2016 Rio Olympics, will highlight the victims of the notorious Palestinian terror attack.
Supporters are being encouraged to change their social media profile pictures to include an image of a double candle – symbolising the number 11 (above).
Paul Charney, chairman of the ZF, said: “The Olympics reflect some of the greatest human values. But on those dark days in 1972, the Munich Olympics came to represent the worst of humanity. Therefore, we’re asking people to shed a little light with this candle graphic, commemorating those who were murdered simply for being Israeli.”
