One of British Jewry’s rare Olympians has been singled out for a special honour by New York’s National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.
Ben Helfgott, who captained the British weightlifting teams in the 1956 and 1960 Games, has won the Dick Steinberg Good Guy Award.
It is presented to someone judged to have lived up to the high ideals of the late manager of the New York Jets American football team.
Polish-born Mr Helfgott, 81, who came to Britain after surviving the Nazi camps, will receive the award in a ceremony next year.
