It was a bold change to one of British Jewry's most iconic items, the Blooms Vienna.
Gilberts Kosher Meats, which manufactures the Blooms brand, had been lobbied by requests for a lighter product.
A year or so ago, the company acceded - and added some turkey to the sausage mix. But others had the beef with the mixed blend.
Gilberts director Norman Bookbinder said, "We had old Blooms' customers ringing us up and asking us to go back to the traditional beef recipe. In the meantime, our own turkey viennas and hot dogs have been selling in much higher numbers, so there is a poultry option. So we have taken the turkey meat out of Blooms."
And now pans can bubble with the venerable vienna in just the way old Eastenders like it.
