An auctioneer regularly featured on the BBC antiquing game show Bargain Hunt sparked outrage this week after Nazi memorabilia was reportedly listed for sale by his firm.
A Third Reich banner, an SS badge and other Nazi-era relics were initially set to be sold on Friday by the Wiltshire-based Wessex Auction Rooms, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
But the items were removed from sale days before the auction after the newspaper contacted one of its directors, Tim Weeks, who made his debut as a Bargain Hunt expert in 2017.
He told the newspaper the auction house “would never wish to cause any offence.”
“We apologise if any hurt has unintentionally been caused,” he said.
While many sellers have their own policies against selling Nazi memorabilia, such transactions are not illegal under UK law.
The Board of Deputies reportedly criticised the “distressing, disturbing and hugely disrespectful” incident.
The BBC and Mr Weeks were contacted for comment.
