Palestinian activist Raed Salah has requested permission to appeal against a tribunal ruling which agreed he should be removed from Britain, the JC can confirm.

Last week an immigration tribunal found in favour of Home Secretary Theresa May's order that Sheikh Salah should be banned from Britain as his presence "would not be conducive to the public good".

The Tribunals Service confirmed this afternoon that the 52-year-old's lawyers had applied for permission to appeal to the Upper Tribunal on a point of law arising from the first-tier tribunal's decision.

He can remain in Britain for as long as that process takes. Experts predicted it could be a number of weeks before a decision is made on whether to grant the appeal.
