A senior LSE professor has apologised for threatening to slap a Board of Deputies vice-president.

Anthropology specialist Martha Mundy was listening to a debate on Israel at the school in January when she clashed with Jonathan Arkush.

She told him: "I want to give you a slap in the face" and accused him of "professional defamation" over comments about her chairing of a previous event.

In a letter to Mr Arkush this week, LSE secretary Adrian Hall wrote: "It is clear that there was a difficult conversation between you… In the heat of the moment, Prof Mundy's choice of language in expressing her point of view to you was capable of misinterpretation and she apologises for that."
