The founder of the Community Security Trust has warned that “life will become more uncomfortable for Jews in the UK” if Jeremy Corbyn becomes Prime Minister.

Gerald Ronson, the philanthropist and founder chairman of CST, predicted that should Mr Corbyn win the next general election and lead the country, “with the people he has around him, I think you will see an increase in antisemitism.

[This]… will make it… more uncomfortable for Jews who want to live their life in the UK as fully identified Jews, and not be uncomfortable if they were wearing a kippah or tzitzit to walk down the high street without being attacked in some form or another”.

Mr Ronson did not specify who he meant by the “people around” the Labour Party leader.

“The modern CST is something I created”, Mr Ronson went on to say in the interview with J-TV, the Jewish YouTube channel. 

“I’ve been involved in fighting antisemitism for over 50 years. The enemy has changed, the enemy is more sophisticated.

“It’s a much more complicated issue. When we look at the left, they were our friends 20 or 30 years ago in the fight against fascism. Now, of course, they’re anti-Zionist, anti-Israel.

“You’ve got the right, which has always been there – and although their focus is most probably at Muslims, black people etc, the Jew is always there in the scenario.”

The tycoon, who is chief executive of Heron International plc and chairman of the Gerald Ronson Family Foundation, also called on wealthy people to be more philanthropic.

“I believe that if we are blessed in life, that if the good Lord blesses us with the ability to make money, we have a responsibility to put it back into our society”, he said.

He added that he had both raised and given away “tens and tens of millions [of pounds]… predominantly covering the areas of welfare and education”.
