A swastika has been found carved into the grass outside a primary school.
The Nazi symbol shocked parents who spotted it while taking their children to Green Way Academy in Hull.
Local resident Shirley Hare, 71, said she saw the swastika during an early morning walk.
“It is a terrible and stupid thing to do, which has upset a lot of people."
Mrs Hare r contacted the council and asked for the swastika to be removed as soon as possible.
She said: "I have phoned the council several times and I think it is very bad that it has been left there even just for a few days.
"I've already contacted the school who told me that they too have been getting reports and complaints from anxious parents about this too.
“If I lived a bit closer, I would be tempted to get out there with a shovel and dig it up myself."
Hull councillor Steve Wilson said: "I am absolutely appalled that anyone would do this and I am at a loss to understand why.
"There are a lot of stupid people out there who probably don't appreciate the significance of this symbol and the offence it could cause. I think it is disgusting behaviour and I can't imagine what they were thinking at the time."
The antisemitic symbol has also upset older residents who remember bombs dropping on the city during the Blitz from 1940 to 1941.
Mrs Hare said: "I have no idea what possessed these mindless people to spend their time defacing public land in this way.
"Obviously they have no regard or respect for other residents of North Hull Estate, many of whom have lived through the terrible war years or lost members of their families in the hostilities."
