Amy Whinehouse card sold for charity

articlemain

A birthday card, handmade by late pop-star Amy Winehouse for her mother Janis, has been sold for £200.

The green card with a cartoon image of Mrs Winehouse, decorated by a 12-year-old Amy, was auctioned on eBay to raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Mrs Winehouse, from East Barnet, who suffers from multiple sclerosis - a disease affecting nerves in the brain and spinal cord - sold the card to mark the charity’s 60th birthday.

“Amy drew this picture of me when she was just 12 in French class,” she told Times Series news.

“We’ve waited until now to make it public. I wanted to use it for something special and the society’s work is incredibly important to me.

“I’m sure Amy would be happy for me to donate it. I hope it raises vital money for the charity’s amazing research.”

The Jewish Back to Black-singer died from accidental alcohol poisoning in July 2011, aged 27.
