A little too live for Radio 5

articlemain

Radio 5 Live presenter Nicky Campbell got more than he bargained for when he interviewed QC Jonathan Goldberg.

The lawyer is defending Sergeant Alexander Blackman, who was jailed for murder two years ago for shooting a wounded Taliban fighter in Afghanistan.

Describing the stress the British soldier was under at the time, Mr Goldberg quoted Blackman's words as he opened fire: "It's more than you would have done for us, you c---".

Cue instant interruption from the presenter and outraged tweets. But Mr Goldberg, who believes the sergeant to be a victim of a miscarriage of justice, brushed off the fuss about the four-letter word. "It's pathetic that a serious case should be so childishly trivialised, when I was quoting a piece of evidence that has been all over the airwaves and TV," he said this week.

He took up the case at the request of his friend, Frederick Forsyth.
