It's not every day that you see a Yiddish music video - but this one has been seen over 32,000 times.
The filming of Chaim Shlomo Mayes’s dance hit “Bas-Kol” (which means Divine Voice/Bass Voice), which was shot at a wedding, has become a hit on social media. Possibly because - as many Israelis who saw the video said - it is unusual to see Chasidic men behaving as they do on the film (rapping, dancing, some smooth footwork...).
Mr Mayes has had hits before with his partner Dudi Kalish, who are singers and composers across nearly all contemporary musical genres as well as in traditional Chasidic music. They are known for their remakes of popular Israeli and American songs in Yiddish where they switch out the words about sex, love and money for words of spiritual encouragement.
