The idea of staying in a castle is tempting whether you're a history lover or thwarted knight/princess. So it's not surprising that Warwick Castle's glamping has been hugely popular.
But if sleeping in a yurt doesn't appeal, there's now another option: 28 new lodges with proper beds - and more importantly, a proper bathroom.
Although you're staying in the grounds not the castle itself, the Knight's Village lodges are more than an overnight stay: they're an experience. Because after the gates close at night, including the lodges' special VIP entrance, the day visitors head home and only the favoured few get to stay.
A princess would be hard pressed to feel even a pea in the comfy double beds while the shields, chivalric decorations and luxurious Elemis toiletries should make her feel right at home.
Smaller dragon slayers have their own bunk beds, including a third pull-out, plus a fantastically detailed mural on the opposite wall that's just bloodthirsty enough to appeal to children without giving them nightmares.
Feasting and carousing is limited to a distinctly non-medieval kettle plus some rather good biscuits but fortunately there's also a medieval banquet every evening for £18.95, with children's dishes, all-you-can-eat buffet, bottomless soft drinks plus a small bar for something stronger to quaff.
As "Sir Philip of Stoke" swaggered past diners in the great hall, he even persuaded my finicky daughter to finish her pasta in time for the evening's entertainment: archery, jester skills and a short lesson on how to disembowel a barbarian for the enthusiastic band of miniature swordfighters.
After breakfast, a second day's entry to the castle is included, probably the only way to fit in the castle rooms, battlements, exhibitions on Warwick's history and inhabitants, Horrible Histories Maze, birds of prey show, trebuchet firing and impressive live joust.
