Walig Hut

With only the hills and a few farmhouses dotted about for company, there is nothing to obscure the breathtaking, romantic views of the mountains and snow-capped peaks in the distance.

Everything they say about the Alps, from the crisp air to the sense of absolute tranquillity, becomes true as you relax by the Walig Hut.

In the summer months, the hut can be hired for a night stay for two adults and up to two children or for a meal for as many as 80 people.

The accommodation may be basic, but this being an offshoot of the Gstaad Palace, (see main feature) food is catered and staff can be on site or dishes such as a fondue left ready with instructions.

There is also something particularly refreshing about eating cheese just minutes from the farm it was processed in.

You will need a car to get there, unless you fancy a few hours hike up the mountain, but it is on a private road so there is little chance of your stay being spoilt by traffic or passers-by.

If you like your holidays with every amenity under the sun, the Walig Hut probably is not the place for you.

But if you want a break that really is different and a once-in-a-lifetime experience with all the pleasures of camping but a tad more comfort, then look no further.
