Anyone who’s ever wandered past those millionaires’ mansions in Belgravia and wondered what it would be like to live the life can now do so for a few days courtesy of the Sloane Club.

This private members’ establishment has taken over four red-brick buildings off Sloane Square, where they are making ritzy studios and apartments available as an alternative to a classic five-star London hotel stay.

Of course, part of what you pay for at a five-star hotel is the facilities, and the reason these apartments cost somewhat less is that the restaurant, bar and lounges are off-limit to non-members. But the art deco-style accommodation is ultra-luxe, and the Poggenpohl kitchen a boon for families travelling with children or the observant who might prefer not to eat out.

And there is room service — the Club will deliver dinner in a hamper if ordered early in the day, as well as a bountiful deli-style breakfast (advise any dietary restrictions on arrival).
