Several hotel openings around the world is proof of a buoyant holiday scene. We have uncovered seven in different locations — a stay would make great after-dinner conversation.

Where: Mallorca
What: Pure Salt Port Adriano
Who for: Adults only
Open: Now
This 94-room five-star cliff-top hotel opened last week. It is the only hotel in El Toro that is located in the Port Adriano marina, which, incidentally, was created by designer Philippe Starck. It is separated from the marina by a small soft sand beach. All rooms and suites have sea views and Bulgari toiletries. Naturally it has a spa, a gym, Turkish bath, sauna and hair salon. There are two pools, one indoor heated pool and an outdoor river-style pool running along the front of the hotel. Two sea-view restaurants offer fine food, but in any case the marina has plenty of nightlife and eateries so you won’t get bored. Golfers take note: the hotel is located bang in the middle of 13 courses none more than 45 kilometres away. The closest one is Santa Ponsa, which is a couple of minutes walk.

Where: Brussels
What: Radisson Red
Who for: Tech savvy business travellers
Open: Now
The first Radisson Red hotel (another 13 are in the pipeline) has just opened its bright red framed doors in the heart of Brussels, a stone’s throw from the European Parliament. Decor may be vibrant but it is not by any means a traditional hotel. There’s no front desk and no room keys. Entry is via an app on your smartphone. Staff (dubbed Red Creatives) supply a tablet when they greet you which acts as a virtual concierge for check-in and check-out. It also deals with the bar tab, food and drinks, news about Red, not-to-miss activities in Brussels and great places to be. Its 149-studios have slick, streamlined designs with double beds, large windows and feature a 55-inch TV and sound bar, a picnic table, a fridge, just enough closet space, and a spacious bathroom with a high pressure walk-in shower. There are works of modern art on display and a games room with a pool table, tennis table and even a fitness room. Oh, and free high-speed internet is available throughout the hotel.

Another six bars will serve aperitifs, after-dinner drinks, coffee or a cocktail by the pool.
