Metallics have a bad reputation in the fashion world. They're seen as limiting shiny reflective hues that are worn for evening events only and don't flatter any figure above a size 8. However, if you look in high street stores, you'll agree this couldn't be further from the truth. At the recent Met Gala Awards, everyone who was anyone - from Kardashian girl Kendell Jenner to supermodel Cindy Crawford - set the red carpet alight with metallic maxis that wowed.

It's a no-brainer for turning heads. Quite simply, metallics equal glamour, without having to try too hard. They glisten in the light and in the dark and they make your skin glow. (It's the A-listers' secret weapon to giving dull skin a kick.) Not convinced? Place a metallic fabric, whether gold, silver or bronze under your chin and you'll instantly see your face light up without a highlighter or contour brush in sight!

The big transition in fashion is trying to educate consumers to think metallics can be worn whatever the time of day. They're not just for after dark. Flashy fashion pieces can be found in modern daywear that give just the right amount of glitz without looking like you have forgotten to change from the night before. It's what you team with your metallic clothes that will determine your look.

Gold and copper metallics look great with creams, pinks and greys while silver metallics are better suited to blacks, greys and whites. For daywear, choose just one metallic piece per outfit and make it your focal point. Pare back the look by matching with a neutral palette.
