For the first time in 90 years, Streit's Matzos will not be operating in the company's factory on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The family sold the property, located in four tenement buildings on Rivington Street, earlier this month for almost $31 million.

Streit's was one of the few traditional Jewish places left in the Lower East Side, famous for its Jewish immigrants and history. According to the Streit family, theirs is the last big family-owned matzah manufacturer in the US. Streit's also operates a facility in Moonachie, New Jersey.

Aron Streit, an Austrian immigrant who had come to the USA in the 1890s, started the company in 1916. Together with his first partner, Rabbi Weinberger, he produced the matzahs manually, according to the company's website.

Together with one of his sons, Streit opened the factory on the Lower East Side in 1925.
