The leader of the American evangelical tendency, Sarah Palin, who once claimed she could see Russia from her Alaskan home, is on a whirlwind tour of the world. She chose Purim to visit Jerusalem to declare her undying love for all things Jewish.
This is the same Sarah Palin (no relation to Michael Palin, but certainly a Monty Pythoneseque figure in her own right), who claimed she was the victim of a "blood libel" after the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifords.
She is also close to Jews for Jesus and was present at her Alaskan church when it welcomed the director of this proselytising group. In his sermon he said, among other hurtful things, that Israelis killed in terror attacks died because of God’s judgment against them for not accepting Jesus. After listening to this hateful nonsense, the Church took up a collection for this group.
Maybe she's a fringe character who wants to bring about the "Rapture" (the Israeli far right have form on supporting these people) and if God doesn't will it, they are quite capable of trying to hasten its arrival - and in that they will probably find quite a few willing helpers.
