The sold-out tournament, which was held at the David Lloyd Centre, was open to players of all ages and abilities, factors which added to the community feel vibe. Sixteen pairs team competed, varying in age from 14 to mid-70s, and while Max Silverman and Sam Zlotnick ended up with medals, the real winner was Jewish tennis itself.

Delighted with how the afternoon went, Jordan Sapler, Maccabi GB Head of Sports, Health and Wellbeing, said: “This was our first community tennis event in a long time, the feedback from those who took part has been really positive and we’ll be using today as a launchpad for future events. We're already planning them, which will include a women’s only event, a junior event and more open and masters events.”

Describing the standard on display as ‘very high throughout’, he continued: “The tournament was filled with current and past Maccabiah athletes from all age groups and categories. It was fantastic to see some new faces too and there was definitely some potential Maccabiah Games and JCC games athletes on show too.”
