Supermarket crisps given kosher approval

The KLBD has given the green light to a number of supermarket own-brand ready salted crisps

A number of supermarket own-brand ready salted crisps have been approved as kosher, the KLBD has announced.

Ready salted crisps by Aldi Snackrite, ASDA, Lidl Snaktastic, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Tesco Stockwell & Co are now considered kosher parev.

Kosher London Beth Din (KLBD), the largest kosher agency in Europe, said that it made the decision after its product research team checked several major supermarket brand crisps.

“KLBD strives to make keeping kosher easier and we know that given the cost-of-living crisis, being able to choose cheaper crisps will be welcome news for many,” said Rabbi Elie Schoemann, interim director of KLBD. “This follows our recent announcement approving many supermarket own-brand cereals wherever you are in the United Kingdom.”

The agency responds to hundreds of product enquiries every week, according to Rabbi Schoemann, and encourages kosher-eaters to reach out regarding any products they would like the KLBD research team to look into.
