Oakwood Masters team rolled back the years on Sunday morning as they beat Maccabi GB Southern League (MGBSFL) Premier Division side Redbridge Jewish Care A on penalties to book their place into the second round of the Peter Morrison Trophy.
The win was all the more impressive as with them no longer participating in the Maccabi Masters League, this was the first time they’ve played together this season.
As manager Mikey Cohen explained: “We hadn’t had any pre-match training sessions or matches, which therefore also meant no practice had been done for the penalties. As a result, we were very rusty from the start, but once we put that aside, we dominated the game and it really only looked like there was one team that was likely to win the tie.
“I felt we should definitely have won the game in normal time, we missed several one-on-one chances and if we had been clinical, would have been out of sight.”
Goals from Josh Bharrier and Sam Modlin – the latter’s an 88th minute equaliser, ensured the match finished at 2-2 – Harry Goldsmith and Scott Oldstein strikes had put Redbridge ahead – before the match was settled by spot kicks. The O’s 100% conversion rate saw Bharrier, Jack Myers, Darra Abdolrazaghi, Max Rose and Simon Davies fire home to seal a 5-3 shoot-out win, with Cohen saying: “I’m really pleased that we never gave up and kept going until the end, before winning the game with five top quality penalties.”

Delighted to be into the next round and being part of the tournament, Cohen added: “We’ve loved entering this competition, bringing a lot of the old squad back together and with a few more boys to come back for the next round, we feel like we can really go far in the competition.”
It’s as you were at the top of the Premier Division as the top-two both won seven-goal thrillers 4-3. Gav Lewis scored twice, with Rocky Spitzer and Mordy Weiler scoring their other two. Hendon manager Alex Rosenthal said: “An electric first half set the tone, but what really pleased me was the character we showed when the game turned. Even when things weren’t perfect, the boys kept finding a way to win – that mentality is everything.” Freddie land scored twice for Yallatasary, with Sammy Kebede netting their other. Manager Buddy Smith said: “Fair play to a great Hendon side for winning, it’s always a fantastic battle when we play them. We played some incredible football and are gutted we didn’t go on and win the game when it was 3-3.” Geez Park Rangers moved up to fourth spot as they won 6-2 at Athletic Bears. Aron Gale, Ethan Gabriel Mooney and Samuel Morris all scored two each, with Sam Martin scoring the Bears’ goals.

Temple Fortune stay clear in second spot as they also had four different scorers – Will Appleton, Adam Goodman, Joel Berman and Saul Simons – in their 4-3 win at Bocher Juniors. Manager James Lee said: “It was a tremendous result, we’re going through a terrible run of injuries, but full credit to those who played.” Dudi Dubiner scored twice for Juniors, with Yedidya Solomon hitting their third. Manager Joel Ucko said: “The players did well to come from 4-0 down to make a game of it, but the defeat is on me. We’re in a bad patch, with six defeats on the spin, I have to accept, my job is to ensure we have a platform to win games of football and right now we don’t.”
Hampstead Ducks are up to third in the table as two goals from Rafi Zamet, along with Rafael Jacobs’ strike saw them win 3-0 at Mill Hill Minyan. Three injury time goals saw Brady win 6-4 at 40 Year Wanderers. Aaron Diamond, Noah Raphael and Harry Earle all scored with 90+ minutes on the clock, with Zak Lewis’ double and Scott Davidson’s effort providing their other three goals. Sam Holden scored a hat-trick for Wanderers, with Louis Linskell scoring his first goal for the club. Assistant manager Josh Gottlieb said: “We were unlucky in the end. We started the game very well but couldn’t hold onto the lead.”
Real Masmid stay four points clear at the top of Division Two as they recorded a comprehensive 5-0 home win over Schlepfield Wednesday. Mikey Selby scored twice, with Akiva Solomon, Chaim Samet and Josh Abraham netting their other three.

Hendon Harriers notched up their first win of the season as they beat St John’s Wood Tigers 4-1 thanks to two goals from Ben Simons, plus strikes from Andy Diamond and Graham Meyer. Grant Taylor replied for Tigers.
