Stoke Salmon booked their place in the semi-finals of this season’s Peter Morrison Trophy on Sunday morning – at the second time of asking.
Salmon’s quarter-final tie with Sukkotingham Forest last weekend was abandoned due to a spate of injuries in the game, with Salmon 3-0 up.
In the rematch, matters seemed to be going in favour of Forest when Eytan Millan sent them into an early lead. However, Salmon, who are still looking to secure runners-up spot in the Premier Division, hit back in stunning style, with five different names – Nick Barnett, Jamie Smaje, Ben Kohler, Sam Keene and Nathan Schindler – all getting on the scoresheet in an emphatic 5-1 win.
Forest manager Sam Nagioff said: “It was a scoreline that didn’t reflect our performance. We matched them all game, however tired legs and lack of concentration at crucial times cost us. We’ll be back and ready for the Premier Division.”
Also through to the last four of a cup competition are 40 Year Wanderers, who came away from Mill Hill Minyan with a 3-1 win, to seal their place in the semi-finals of the David Wolff Division One Cup.
Elsewhere in what was a full programme of cup fixtures, there were two group stage matches played in the David Wolff Division Two Cup. Ben Mandell, Jason Blackman and Lawrence Rosenberg scored for Beitar Bushey in their win 3-2 at Chopped Villa. Assistant manager Josh Webber said: “The boys did us proud today, it was a really tough game and everything had to be spot on. We’re really proud to get this result and continue our cup run in strength.” Charlie Dagul and Marc Smith scored in vain for Villa.
Also victorious in the same stage of the competition were Schlepfield Wednesday, who picked up a 3-1 win at Scrabble. Levi Sasson scored twice, with Mason Gold netting their third. Ethan Gold was on target for Scrabble.
In the Super Cup, an 86th-minute winner from Samuel Kebede squeezed Yallatasary past Geez Park Rangers. Rangers’ Max Diamond said after his side’s 1-0 defeat: “It was a real struggle to get a team together this week and we went into the game with only 12 players, some lacking match fitness due to recently returning from injury and we therefore had a very limited substitutes bench.
“It was a park-the-bus approach from us, which almost resulted in a 0-0 draw, however, we conceded a chance very late in the game, which they took to snatch the win. Joe Bellman put in a very solid display in centre midfield, where he never usually plays, and deservedly received the man-of-the-match award on the day.
“Now our full focus turns to the coming weekend’s Peter Morrison semi-final showdown as we travel to HMH. We will have a very strong team and will aim for revenge after they knocked us out the Cyril Anekstein a few weeks ago.”
In the same competition, Hendon United won 5-1 at Hampstead Ducks. Jack Naftalin scored twice, with Dovi Fehler, Daniel Seligman and Rocky Spitzer also all finding the back of the net. Manager Alex Rosenthal said: “It was another strong, disciplined performance to make it three wins on the bounce. Hampstead fought hard but we were too sharp up top.”
In the Maccabi Masters League, EHRS Stonegrove consolidated third spot in the table thanks to a fine 7-3 win over Brady. Jake Masteran and Gary Good both scored two each, with Russell Rich, James Cartmell and Jon Holman also all on target. Scott Ansher scored twice for Brady, with David Simmons netting their third goal.
In the Nathan Horwitz Cup, League leaders Maccabi London Lions thumped St John’s Wood 6-0. Scott Levy bagged a brace, with Bradley Lazarus, Wayne Davidson, Tony Gold and Barry Silkman also all finding the back of the net. Elsewhere, two goals from Tony Plaskow helped Scrabble to a 3-1 win over Temple Fortune 3-1. Oli Kenner scored their third, with Stefan Simons grabbing Fortune’s consolation.
