The S&P Sephardi Community has announced the nomination of Rabbi Amir and Rabbanit Tova Ellituv as the new spiritual heads of the S&P Sephardi Community in London and the senior rabbinic couple for Lauderdale Road Synagogue.
This decision follows a thorough seven-month search by the rabbinic selection committee (RSC), which involved global outreach, community consultation and a rigorous interview process. The Ellituvs were unanimously recommended by the RSC and endorsed by the board of trustees.
Rabbi Ellituv brings over 25 years of pastoral and communal leadership experience, most recently as senior rabbi of Sha’are Hayim in South Manchester, which is known as one of Europe’s most vibrant and fastest-growing Sephardi communities.
Rabbanit Tova Ellituv was described by S&P Sephardi Community as “a dynamic educator and community organiser, known for her creativity, warmth, and inclusive approach to engaging women, youth, and families”.
Daniel Sacerdoti, Parnas Presidente and chair of the RSC, said: “Rabbi and Rabbanit Ellituv are exceptional leaders who blend tradition with innovation. They have a proven ability to build community, inspire across generations, and make every individual feel welcome. Their values and experience align perfectly with the S&P’s mission and future.”
Rabbi Ellituv said that he and Rabbanit Ellituv were “ready for a new voyage; to serve, to lead, and to grow with the S&P Sephardi Community in London. Our vision is rooted in building a warm, inclusive and joyful Sephardi life, rich in Torah, welcoming of diversity, and alive with community.”
Rabbanit Tova added: “My role has always been to bring people together; through Shabbat meals, teaching, or creative programming. I look forward to connecting with this new community and helping it thrive.”
The community is invited to meet the Ellituvs at events over Shabbat, August 29 to 30, and at an evening gathering on Tuesday September 9.
Voting by the kahal (community) will take place following these meetings, and eligible members “are encouraged to take part in this pivotal moment for the community’s future”, said a spokesperson for S&P Sephardi Community. The appointment can only be confirmed after voting by the kahal.
