Maccabi GB recently joined forces with The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation as they hosted a Year 6 football tournament at the Premier League side’s training ground.
Also teaming up with Andrew Gilbert, CEO of Cohesion Chemistry and Co Lead of Enfield Multi Faith Forum, the event brought together 80 pupils from eight schools across the local community, including Alma, Eden Primary, Hertsmere Jewish Primary School, Sacks Morasha, Nancy Reuben, Rosh Pinah, Sinai and Wolfson Hillel, representing the boroughs of Barnet, Hertsmere, Enfield, Haringey and Brent.
Held to provide young people with an opportunity to enjoy competitive sport in an inclusive and positive environment, while also strengthening connections between schools and communities, Rosh Pinah won the event, with Wolfson Hillel taking the runners-up accolade.
Gilbert said: “It’s been fantastic to see so many young people come together through sport in such a positive environment. We hope this is the beginning of many more collaborative opportunities between the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and the Jewish community. Maccabi GB have once again demonstrated their outstanding skillset, reach and ability to deliver meaningful community engagement programmes.”
Philip Rudling, Head of Programmes at the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, said: “We were delighted to host and run this tournament with Maccabi GB. It’s always great to engage our local communities and give children an opportunity to play on world class pitches – some of the group also met Ben Davies on the day, which made the occasion even better.”
Delighted with having the opportunity to stage the event, Jordan Sapler, Head of Sport, Health and Wellbeing at Maccabi GB, said: “We’re grateful for the teachers and parents who gave up their half-terms to help us make this happen. We look forward to working with Andrew Gilbert and Tottenham Hotspur Foundation on more of these events in the future.”
Maccabi GB Trustee Ian Aarons, added: “This tournament was a fantastic example of Maccabi GB running activities for our Jewish schools and the wider community, it was great to bring together Jewish children of all sporting abilities and from a wide range of different schools and present them the opportunity to play at such a fantastic venue.”
