Real Masmid continued their winning start to their debut Maccabi GB Southern Football League (MGBSFL) season as they thrashed Scrabble FC 9-1 to go a point clear at the top of Division Two.
Shneur Levin helped himself to a hat-trick, Akiva Solomon scored twice, and Mikey Selby, Charles Samet, David Amor and Avi Green completed the rout.
Masmid manager Aaron Toubian said afterwards: “It was a superb, statement performance. We went back to basics [after last week’s cup defeat], constantly played the ball out from the back and were clinical in front of goal.”
Delighted with their 100 per cent winning start to their league campaign, he continued: “The confidence and togetherness in this squad is growing so there’s no reason why we can’t continue to impress on our debut season. This is just the start of the next great Jewish football dynasty.”
Jake Rosenberg scored for Scrabble. Their manager Ollie Sugarman said: “It wasn’t a good day at the office. Losing six players to serious injuries during the game left us badly weakened and our performance suffered. But credit to them, the better team won.
“The boys kept going right until the final whistle, showing great attitude despite the difference between the teams.
“Even though we were weakened and struggled to get a foothold in the game, they never gave up.”
Looking ahead at the bigger picture, having lost their opening three games of the season, he concluded: “We’ve shown good signs in every game and there’s still plenty of time to turn things around.
“With nine matches left, there are 27 points left to play for, which is more than enough to climb the table.
“Last week’s cup win over Rapid Viennas proved we have the quality to compete with top opposition. We have Mill Hill Minyan next and a good cup run could give us the motivation and momentum we need for the rest of the season.”
Redbridge Jewish Care B are a point behind Masmid in second after Harrison Nathan scored in their 1-1 draw against Wolverhampstead Wanderers.
Manager Dani Sivan said: “We’re disappointed not to win with the chances we had, but the boys worked hard and defended really well again.”
Oliver Clarfield netted for Wanderers.
Chopped Villa claimed their first league win of the season with Daniel Mellor’s double along with Noah Abrahams’ strike seeing them to a 3-2 victory over Beitar Bushey. Villa manager Zack Irow said: “It was a solid performance. There were some nervy moments in the last few minutes as they pulled it back to 3-2, but the boys dug deep and held on.”
Sukkotingham Forest are one of three sides tied on six points at the top of the Division One table after their 4-2 win over joint leaders Temple Fortune. Josh Summerfield scored twice, with Ruben Wapnick and Eytan Millan also on target. Manager Sam Nagioff said: “It was a top performance from the lads against a good side who have started well. We reacted really well to conceding two very quick goals and put on a dominant second-half display.”
Hampstead Ducks, who complete the trio of sides at the top, romped to a 5-0 win over 40 Year Wanderers. Charles Braunstein, Reuben Gordon, Max Gordon, Ben Summerfield and Ben Byre were all on target. Bocher Juniors claimed their first league win of the season as Mory Grossberg’s double along with goals from Yedidya Solomon and Dani Rubenstein saw them to a 4-2 win over Brady FC. Manager Joel Ucko said: “Delighted with the three points and even prouder of the performance.”
The other game in the division was a six-goal thriller as Mill Hill Minyan and Rapid Viennas shared the points in a 3-3 draw.
Hendon United Sports Club moved two points clear at the top of the Premier Division table as Rocky Spitzer’s double and Avi Korman’s penalty saw them come away from Stoke Salmon with a 3-2 win.
Hendon’s Russ Corin said: “It was another tough away game on a difficult pitch, but we came through in the end. It was well-contested and very tight, but we worked hard and persevered. They gave us a real test and no doubt they’ll be a lot of teams who struggle to get a result at their ground.”
HMH are two points below them in second spot after they beat Geez Park Rangers 5-2. Ethan Krell, Felix Shalom, Oscar Wagner, Josh Abudu and Clark Norton all found the back of the net.
HMH’s Jake Norton said: “A well-fought battle from the boys who controlled the game throughout. We went behind twice, but after showing good grit and determination, brought it back and got the important three points.”
Elsewhere, there were first wins of the season for Athletico Bears and Redbridge Jewish Care A, who came away from Stopinsky and Yallatasary with 4-3 and 2-1 wins respectively. Bailey Brown and Samuel Cahill scored for Redbridge.
The one game played in this week’s Maccabi Masters Football League saw St John’s Wood Tigers claim their first league win of the season, as they edged out Brady in a 3-2 thriller.
