Over 60 players descended upon the court for WIZO UK’s Mixed Padel Tournament, raising funds in aid of vulnerable women and children across Israel via the country’s largest social welfare organisation.
In a day of lively competition and a charity raffle, padel players raised over £4,000 in support of WIZO UK’s 800 ongoing projects, which include women’s shelters, youth villages, day-cares, and trauma support services.
Emma Yantin, events manager at WIZO UK, welcomed players to the north London event with a reminder of the event’s significance. “WIZO UK is, at its core, about one thing: strengthening lives in Israel, with social welfare services that support every need at every stage of life, regardless of race, religion or gender. At this time, however, our focus is especially on the women who have had to carry society since October 7 and their families.”

Yantin said that a padel tournament was a “very fitting” way to raise funds. “Padel is all about partnership, resilience, support and community – showing up for one another, lifting each other up, and knowing that no one succeeds entirely alone. Those same values are exactly what sit at the heart of WIZO. Your support is vital. It’s therapy for those dealing with trauma. It’s safe spaces for vulnerable women and children. It’s education that helps rebuild futures.”
After a day of mixed pairs competing with gusto, the eventual winners were Zoe Kessler and Meir Porat, with Daniel Jackson and Nicole Neumann as runners-up.
“We had such a brilliant day playing in the tournament and were thrilled to win, but the real highlight was being part of an event that brought so many people together for such an important cause,” said the victorious Zoe and Meir. “The atmosphere was incredible from start to finish and it was great to know the money raised will go towards supporting the life-changing work WIZO does for women, children and families across Israel.”

Vicky Baruch, one of the players, said: “It was a fantastic opportunity to combine my favourite hobby, playing padel, with something truly meaningful, bringing the padel community together in such a positive and energetic way. The event had an incredible atmosphere, and it was inspiring to see so many people come together to support the important work WIZO does.”
The event host, journalist Suzanna Baum, said: “There was such an amazing energy throughout the tournament, and it was fantastic to see so many people coming together in support of WIZO. Sport has a unique way of building community and connection, but what made the day even more meaningful was knowing the money raised will help support women, children and families who are relying on WIZO’s services during incredibly difficult times.”
