Chopped Villa crowned off a dream debut Maccabi GB Southern Football League (MGBSFL) season by claiming their first piece of silverware on Sunday morning.
Goals from Jayden Groden and Olly Dagul saw them beat Schlepfield Wednesday 2-0 to win the David Wolff Division Two Cup, a first cup to go in their trophy cabinet alongside securing runners-up spot in Division Two.
Delighted with the display of his side, manager Noah Abrahams said: “I was very happy with the performance, the most pleasing thing for me was the commitment and togetherness of the squad, even though we suffered for the first 20 minutes.”
Firm in the belief that his side were worthy winners over the 90 minutes, he said: “It was 100% deserved. They gave us a good game, but I think the big pitch played into our hands today and allowed us to play how we wanted to and how we train to play. The difference between the two sides today was that we were more clinical and had more of a cutting edge in attack.”

Reflecting back on their first season in the League, he continued: “We’re so proud of this season, to gain promotion and win a cup in our first ever season as a team is incredible and a testament to the lads and the togetherness of the team.”
As to looking ahead to next year, he added: “We’ve got big hopes for next year, we want to improve next season and believe we’ve got the quality to be extremely competitive in Division One. After winning this cup today, the boys have the winning feeling and we’ll be going for another trophy next season that’s for sure.”
Commenting on the display of his side, Wednesday’s Josh Bond said: “It was a really unfortunate end to what has been an incredible debut season. We had a fantastic first 20 minutes of the game taking control, however they grew into the game and once going behind it was always going to be difficult against a very good side.”
Conceding the final outcome was a fair one, he said: “While we started strong, the reality is that they were more up for it on the day. Duels that you need a bit of luck to go your way just weren’t coming off for us.”

But more than happy with his team’s first season, he concluded: “I think we can call this overall campaign a success. For a group of friends to come together and create this platform for us to enjoy playing football week in, week out has been brilliant. While winning silverware in year one would’ve been a dream come true, it wasn’t an expectation in the slightest. Next year, that changes. We’ve now set up the foundations to go on and succeed.”
In what was the final day of the season MGBSFL, there were two other finals played to bring the season to a close.
Division One champions Sukkotingham Forest completed a league and cup treble as goals from Jonah Hirschel and Toby Mandel saw them beat 40 Year Wanderers 2-1 to win the David Wolff Division One Cup. Forest manager Sam Nagioff said: “I think we deserved the win overall, we were the team with the most possession and created the best chances of the game. It was definitely frustrating to be level for so long given all our chances, but a win is a win, especially in a cup final.”
Understandably delighted with how the season has panned out for his side, he added: “I can’t have asked for any more from the players than a treble. We know that next year will be a massive step up and we’re excited for the challenge and to push for more trophies.”
The third winners of the day were Geez Park Rangers, who completed a cup double by beating Premier Division runners-up Stoke Salmon 4-2 to lift the David Woolf Premier Division Cup.
Mike Perkins scored twice, with Joe Leslie and Tyler Smith’s penalty completing the win. Rangers’ Max Diamond said: “We definitely deserved the win and it was made more straight forward with Salmon being reduced to ten men early in the first half. We dominated the ball for large parts of the game, which made the win very comfortable.”
Reflecting back on the season, he said: “It’s been a mixed one for us. Trophies are always good to win so we’re happy about the two cups we picked up, however our league form fell well short this season for the talent in our team and we will be looking to put this right next season.”
