Modern Orthodox synagogue Ner Yisrael has introduced a rabbinic internship, reportedly the first of its kind in the Hendon-based community.
The independent synagogue, which includes over 350 families, will welcome couple Simcha and Nadia Morris into a hands-on partnership under the experienced leadership of Dayan Eliezer and Rebbetzin Aviva Zobin.
As interns, Simcha and Nadia will receive both halachic and pastoral mentoring from the Dayan and Rebbetzin. They will also be tasked with organising events, giving sermons and teaching. The two-way model intends to foster future rabbinic leadership while contributing to Ner Yisrael’s communal life.
“This marks a significant and exciting development for our community,” wrote Dayan and Rebbetzin Zobin in a joint announcement with the trustees and board. “As a part-time internship, their presence and contributions will naturally unfold over time as relationships develop.
“For us, it means new energy, creativity, and presence — with a particular focus on programming, engagement and community connection.”
London-born couple Simcha and Nadia have been thoroughly involved in Jewish studies. Both received education in the United Kingdom and Israel. Simcha is currently studying for semicha at the Rabbinic Training Academy, while Nadia Morris teaches on the Hasmonean Midrasha programme.
“My wife and I are delighted to be joining such a vibrant and warm community,” said Simcha. “We also feel honoured by the opportunity to gain experience from Dayan and Rebbetzin Zobin.”
