With almost less than a month to go, people are being urged to sign up for Limmud Festival so as not to miss out.
The annual event, which is the biggest cross-communal Jewish festival of culture and learning in the UK, will be celebrating its 45th anniversary this year and promises to offer “something for everyone”, said its Jake Berger, who is chairing the event alongside Sarah Rose.
He told the JC: "Our job is to give participants some difficult decisions to make about which sessions to pick. The programming team have well and truly delivered that.”
While the full programme will be published at the start of December, the team have been teasing prospective and confirmed festival-goers with what to expect on their social media, telling Instagram followers: “After 5786 years, there are still new ways to be Jewish.”
These includes being entertained by Chaia, a composer, who weaves Yiddish music with electronic club music; watching award-winning storyteller and performer Daniel Cainer, who is currently touring his one-man show; hearing a talk from Rabbi Lev Saul, a founder of the Queer Yeshiva, and enjoying a performance by some of the cast of Fiddler on the Roof. Limmudniks will also be able to get a discount on tickets for the show, which will be showing close by in Birmingham.

There will also be opportunities to discuss the situation in the Middle East with, among others, former JC journalist Anshel Pfeffer, who now writes for the Economist and Haaretz, and Baron Frankel, chief executive of the Portland Trust, which promotes peace and stability between Israelis and Palestinians through economic development.
Berger said: “It sounds cliche - but there really will be something for everyone at Limmud Festival this year. The performance track is a real highlight, with some fantastic comedy and music keeping us entertained in the evenings.
“If that's not your bag though there's loads more on offer - where else could you find sessions on Jewish voices from Latin America, the Jewishness of AI, and the clandestine operation to rescue Ethiopian Jews all in the same place?”
