Redbridge Jewish Care A cast their league form to one side with a win over Stopinsky in the David Wolff Premier Division Cup.
The bottom side in the Maccabi GB Southern Football League Premier Division table were hosting the team a place above them in their opening match of the competition and got their group stage off to a flying start by securing a 2-1 win.
Harry Goldsmith and Ben Oldstein scored the goals and their manager, Brandon Levene, was a proud man afterwards. He said: “It was an incredible performance all round, and most importantly a real team performance. Everyone worked for each other, the attitude and work ethic was amazing. We had a game plan and executed it perfectly.
“Both teams could have and really should have scored more goals. There were numerous goal-line clearances from both sides and our goalkeeper Ross Weinrabe made some absolutely incredible saves.”
Levene now hopes the competition can help make up for a disappointing league campaign. He said: “The season hasn’t gone as planned. However, we’ve stuck together as a group and kept going. We’ve had major injuries to major players, as well as changes of circumstances in players’ lives.
“We have also been very unlucky in many games, losing games by one goal. We will do our best in the cup, and hopefully we can achieve something special.”
Jake Shooter scored for Stopinsky. His manager, Jacob Brand, said: “It wasn’t the best performance from us today. We had many chances to wrap the game up from the 20th minute onwards, but unfortunately lacked the goals. They had three shots compared to our 20 and were more clinical. Of course it’s not been the season we wanted so far and I’m sure the boys would all say the same. Mistakes happen and now is the time to make them.
“But one thing we don’t lack is heart and we all ultimately want the same thing, silverware.
“We will definitely be back.”
Stoke Salmon moved a step closer to clinching the Premier Division title as two goals from corners – scored by Harry Landy and James Barnett – saw them win 2-1 at Hendon United Sports Club. Yarden Sharifian’s volley from the edge of the area proved a mere consolation for Hendon. Their manager Alex Rosenthal said: “We competed well throughout but were punished from two corners and couldn’t quite find the cutting edge at the other end. We had plenty of effort and commitment, so take the lessons and go again.”
Sukkotingham Forest were crowned Division One champions after they wrapped up the title with an 8-1 win at 40 Year Wanderers.
Eytan Millan bagged himself a hat-trick, Harry Caplin scored twice, and Toby Mandel and Josh Morris were also on target.
Ben Conway scored Wanderers’ consolation from the penalty spot and said: “Congratulations to them on the league title – they’re deserved winners.”
Game of the day was a ten-goal thriller with Rapid Viennas and Bochur Juniors playing out a 5-5 draw. Yedidya Solomon scored twice for Juniors, with Dani Rubenstein, David Abitan and Dudi Dubiner also on target. Juniors manager Joel Ucko said: “We knew that this was going to be a real physical scrap, and once we accepted that, especially after going 3-1 down, we competed properly. From that point on, we matched them in every department, and I think a draw is probably a fair reflection of the game.
“I’m frustrated with the goals we conceded, but given the conditions, coming away to a tough ground, against a very well-drilled side, taking a point is a decent result.”
The Division Two champions were also crowned on Sunday morning as Real Masmid took the title with a 3-2 victory at Chopped Villa. Mikey Selby scored twice, with Akiva Solomon netting their third. Jayden Groden scored twice for Villa.

Schlepfield Wednesday kept up their hopes of finishing as runners-up as goals from Oliver Simble and Jacob Dobrin saw them come away from Redbridge Jewish Care B with a 2-1 win.
Scrabble got their David Wolff Division Two Cup campaign off to a winning start with a 5-4 victory over Wolverhampstead Wanderers. Zack Morris scored a hat-trick, with Daniel Davies claiming the other two. Manager Ollie Sugarman said: “I’m very proud of the boys today. It’s a fantastic start to the competition for us and we managed the game well to hold them off from equalising.”
There was also one Cyril Anekstein Cup tie played and it saw Yallatasary book their place into the third round thanks to a 2-0 win over Brady Maccabias with goals from Jake Jason and Chase Calvert. Manager Buddy Smith said: “We were without four of our most pivotal players but adapted and showed the strength in depth we have with our entire midfield performing incredibly well. We prepared really well for it, worked on certain elements of our game in training to make sure we had other routes to goal and all the training paid off.

“Keeping a clean sheet and not conceding a shot on target is a big deal – huge credit to the squad for their work on and off the ball. We have four cups to fight for. There’s a lot to play for over the next few months, rest assured we will be there and ready.”

Maccabi London Lions maintained both their 100 per cent winning start and six-point lead at the top of the Maccabi Masters League table thanks to a crushing 5-0 win at Temple Fortune. Jon Keterman scored four and Bradley Lazarus was also on target.
