Holocaust survivors and refugees aged over 100 were welcomed for an intimate afternoon tea on Monday by the German ambassador to the UK, Her Excellency Susanne Bauman.

Hosted at the German embassy in partnership with the Association of Jewish Refugees (AJR), the gathering brought together nine centenarian survivors and refugees, all aged from 100 to 105 years old.

Among the guests were 102-year-old Henny Franks, a Kindertransport refugee who went on to serve in the British Armed Forces; 105-year-old Anne Callendar, AJR’s oldest member who joined the organisation at the age of 103; 100-year-old Kurt Marx – another Kindertransport refugee – who recently celebrated his third bar mitzvah; and 100-year-old Alice Hubbers, also rescued by the Kindertransport.

Susanne Baumann, who has held the ambassadorial post since September, spent time with each attendee, listening as they shared extraordinary stories of survival, resilience, and the rebuilding of their lives in Britain.
